Scheuren Announces Grants Secured for Area Sewer and Water Projects

January 20, 2026

HARRISBURG – Rep. Donna Scheuren (R-Montgomery) announced today that five projects that are in or serve the 147th District have received funding from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). This funding comes from the Department of Community and Economic Development’s (DCED) Small Water and Sewer program.

The projects that secured funding with support from Scheuren are as follows:

- The Berks-Montgomery Municipal Authority was awarded $100,000 to rehabilitate two segments of its sanitary sewer collection system. One of these segments is in Douglass Township and serves the community there. The project will remove up to 50,000 gallons per day of wet weather infiltration and inflow.
- The Lower Salford Township Authority will receive $200,000 combined for two separate projects, with $100,000 going to each project. The first project will see new catwalks installed at the Harleysville Wastewater Treatment Plant, which will make it easier to clean the launders on the inside edge. The second project would see the excavation and removal of nearly 1,400 feet of deteriorated asbestos cement sewer mains, manholes and laterals, followed by the installation of new, durable PVC sewer mains, laterals and lined concrete manholes to eliminate infiltration points and improve structural integrity.
- Upper Frederick Township will receive $200,000 to replace the existing 8-inch water main in Perkiomen Crossing Development on Buck Road, between 3412 Westview Drive and 1136 Valley Stream Drive. The 14 fire hydrants connected to the water main have outputs of 250-500 gallons per minute, which is inadequate for fire control. The project includes site preparation, replacement of the existing main with 12-inch pipe and extension of an additional water main branch from a nearby well. These improvements, combined with future phases of work, will increase hydrant output to 1,500 gallons per minute.

The projects that secured funding with support from Scheuren and Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-Montgomery) are as follows:

- The New Hanover Township Authority will receive $350,000 to replace 11 gates within the sewage treatment plant run by the authority. The gate replacements will enhance longevity and reduce future maintenance costs while ensuring the continued operation of the plant without frequent interruptions.

“This is an incredible investment into our community,” said Scheuren. “Over $800,000 in grant funding will support projects across four different townships in the 147th District, and each project will improve the standard of living in these areas, and I was proud to offer my support to every one of them. I also want to thank Sen. Pennycuick for her help in securing money for the New Hanover project.”

DCED’s Small Water and Sewer grants assist with the construction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply system, sanitary sewer system, storm sewer system or flood control projects.
