Scheuren Announces Multimodal Grant for Franconia Township

August 18, 2026

HARRISBURG – Rep. Donna Scheuren (R-Montgomery) announced today a $223,823 PennDOT Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) grant has been awarded to Franconia Township to improve pedestrian safety around the township.

The MTF was created under Act 89 of 2013 to provide financial assistance for transportation projects that improve communities, pedestrian safety and transit infrastructure.

“I’m pleased to support this project which will strengthen the connected system of pedestrian routes in the township,” Scheuren said. “Not only will this encourage healthier physical lifestyles and more outdoor activities, but it will also promote a stronger sense of community. Furthermore, it will ensure our youngest residents have a safe passageway to school by increasing awareness of walkers, buses and parent vehicles.”

More specifically, the funding will be used to upgrade existing pedestrian access to Branchwood Park, Franconia Community Park and in the Lions Gate Community by installing improvements such as rectangular rapid flashing beacons, ADA-compliant ramps, and associated pavement marking and signage. In addition, existing school zone signs near each school within the township – Dock Mennonite Academy, Franconia Elementary School, Indian Crest Middle School, Vernfield Elementary School and West Broad Street Elementary School – will be replaced.

PennDOT will be accepting applications for the next round of MTF grants from Monday, Sept. 14, through Friday, Oct. 30.

The 147th Legislative District includes Douglass, Franconia, Lower Frederick, Lower Salford, New Hanover, Upper Frederick, Upper Pottsgrove and Upper Salford townships in Montgomery County.
