Scheuren Announces Grant Funding for Cleaner Drinking Water in New Hanover Township

October 21, 2026

HARRISBURG – Rep. Donna Scheuren (R-Montgomery) announced today that Aqua Pennsylvania, Inc. will receive $1.72 million in financial support through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) for water treatment system upgrades in New Hanover Township.

The proposed project includes installing two carbon filter tanks to remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also known as PFAS. In addition, the well pump will be upgraded so that water can push through the system effectively. In short, the project will add a two tank PFAS treatment system next to the existing well, upgrade the pump and protect all outdoor piping and valves from weather.

"Installing the PFAS treatment system is a critical investment in protecting public health, ensuring that our community’s drinking water remains safe, reliable and compliant with emerging water quality standards," Scheuren said. “I’m pleased to see Aqua Pennsylvania taking the vital steps necessary to make positive improvements in the drinking water systems of our communities and throughout the Commonwealth.”

Founded in 1988, the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) provides grants and low-interest loans for the design, engineering and construction of drinking water, storm water and wastewater systems.
