Scheuren Announces $1.794 Million Grant to Preserve Open Space in Lower Salford Township
October 23, 2026
HARRISBURG – Rep. Donna Scheuren (R-Montgomery) announced Lower Salford Township has been awarded a $1.794 million state grant to preserve and purchase the 57.08-acre Allebach property, located in Harleysville. This initiative was essential to preserving the property and preventing future development.
Scheuren advocated strongly for this grant with a letter of support to Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).
“As the Main Street corridor has already been fully developed into a mixed-use commercial district, this parcel represents a rare and meaningful opportunity to maintain open space,” Scheuren said. “The property has the potential to become a beautiful community park or a valuable addition to the township’s extensive network of more than 80 miles of walkways and trails. Investing in this open space will create lasting benefits and enhance the quality of life for residents for generations to come.”
The funding, awarded through the DCNR Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2), will support preparation of a master site development plan for the 1-acre park. The project will include a written report and site development drawing to guide future improvements.
Since the C2P2 program began, more than 440,000 acres have been permanently protected, 40% of local parks have received funding, and over 90% of Pennsylvanians live in a municipality with at least one DCNR grant project.
